HARBOR BOARD.

MONTHLY MEETING. The ordinary meeting of the New Plymouth Harbor Board was held yesterday, when there were present: Messrs Newton King (chairman), C. E. Bellringnr, E. Dockrill, J. S. Connett, D. J. Hughes! (.'. E. McGuinness and E. Maxwell. THE TRADE OF THE PORT. Captain AA". AA'aller, harbormaster, reported that for the five weeks ending July 14 211 steamships and one sailing vessel of an aggregate tonnage of 19,359 tons, had entered the port. Imports were 78S0 tons and exports 574 tons, a total of 8454 tons. Government coal landed amounted to 251 tons. HARBOR AA'ORKS. Mr. F. Henderson, superintendent of works reported as follows for the five weeks ending July 14:— ■Paritutu.—The 'Paritutu dredged with the buckets on 24 days, the nett time being 208 hours, and has removed a total of 18,000 tons of spoil in 45 loads, of which 21 were taken from the outer basin in 95 hours, 20 from tlie west side of the wharf in 95 hours, and four from the east side inshore berth in 18 hours. Rough and unsettled weather has considerably delayed the dredging, particularly at the outer basin cut, which has been carried outwards a further length of 280 feet, leaving another 100 feet, or about four days' work, to complete it. Dredging on the outer basin cut has been comparatively easy throughout the month, but owing to the exposed .locality, work had to be restricted for about "half the working time to the more sheltered part of the Harbor. Thomas King—The Thomas King has worked only on 1G days, the nett time being 140 hours, and has removed 7280 tons from the breakwater bank in 91 loads. Repairs, which occupied a week. have been effected to one of the boilers. The dredge is at present cleaning out the berths at the wharf with the Priestman bucket.

AVharf, etc.—Six new chaffing pieces and two sets of walings have been fitted to the wharf. Two cases (10 cwt) of 20-oz muntz sheets are required for three new fender piles at the west side of the work, and for repair work. Eleven new trestles are being made for the rail and line in front of the mixing house. GENERAL. After reading reports from the harbormaster and superintendent of works on the question of the sale of the Thomas [King, it was decided to defer consideration of the matter for six months. The Northern Steam Ship Company wrote protesting against the charge made for shipping bunker coal. Deferred for enquiry as to the general practice.
