'objections to excess profits TAX. (By Telegraph—Our Parliamentary Reporter.) Wellington, Last Night. Country members- having been getting together lately with the abject of making united representations to the Government concerning taxation matters. They held-a meeting of an informal* kind', and discussed the' "situation at length, but did not succeed in* reaching an agreement on all points, anit dL2 not frame recommendations. Subse: quently they learned that Cabinet hadalreadv formulated -the main features of. the new taxation tl# is to'b'e imposed, tstis year, and the idea of making concerted representations was abandoned. The I'r'me Minister and Ms colleagues have been acquainted, informally of the iriews of the country members, whose chief objection is to the excess profits tax. They are stifoiigly of opinion that this tax has operated! unfairly in country districts. It is understood that Ministers do not propose to maintain this tas in its present form.
