THE NEW PRESIDENT. OUTLOOK GLOOMY. Received July 13, 1:1.50 p.m. London, July I*l The Morning Post's Tientsin correspondent states that in response to Li Yuan Bung's urgent request, Tang Kuo Chang accepts the acting-Presidency. The outlook continues gloomy. There is no evidence of a rapprochement between north and south. APPOINTMBJJT 01* PKESIDEOT. London, July 18. The Morning Post's Peking telegram states that President Li Yuan Hung has definitely tendered his resignation following a fight between his men and adherents of the ex-Premier, Tuan Chi Jui, in which three were killed. The President took refuge in the French hospital in Peking, and also issued an appeal urging the country to support his successor, Fang Kuo Ohang. The latter refused to accept the presidency, and was reluctant to proceed to Peking. GERMAN E<TEIGUE CONFIRMED. Washington, July 18. The United Press Tokio correspondent reports that Li Yuan Hung has left the Japanese Legation at Peking, where he took refuge, and resumed the Presidency. It is officially confirmed that Germany financed the attempt to restore the Monarchy, for the purpose of re-establishing peaceful relations with China.
