WESTERN PARK BOARD.
NOMINATION OP MEMBERS 3 The annual meeting of West End resi-1 dents .to nominate four members to ' represent them on the Western Park Board was held at the Soldiers' Club ' last night, 'Mr. G. W. Browne (chairman of the 'board) presiding. The chairman explained that the meeting was for the ,purposo of nominating, not electing, four members of the board. The names of those nominated would j 'be submitted to the New Plymouth Borough Council, and on being approved by that body the gentlemen chosen would be entitled to take their seats as I members of the hoard. The balance- | sheet had not yet .been audited by the town clerk, but he -would ask the secretary, Mr. H. R. Caitcley, to read it in i order to give an approximate idea of the j financial -position. J The balance-sheet showed that the j year had started with a credit 'balance of £s,i 10s, and that the receipts had been £76 ss, as follows: Borough subsidy £SO, rents £25 ss, refund 10s. The expenditure, including £7l 13a 3d for labor, amounted to £IM 17s lid, leaving a credit balance of £lB 17s Id. The assets amounted to £3O 17s Id, and there were no liabilities. The chairman said the assets were really greater than shown o® the balance sheet, as new seats coating about) £33 had not been included. The board had effected same improvements during the past year, although their resources had not permitted them to do much. In connection with the work done, he paid a tribute to the secretary, Mr. Oattlev, for his agricultural and tree-planting work, whic had been of very great value in carrying out the improvements that had been effected. In conclusion, he said the thanks of the board were due to the press for the aid thoy had always been so ready and willing to give. On the motion of Mr. W. Olliver, seconded by Mr. J. T. Mannix, the retiring members, Messrs George A. Corney, Thomas Petty, Fred. Newell, and J. N. Johnson, were nominated for re-election. The chairman, in closing the meeting, said he hoped the time was not far distant when the board would 'be in a position to undertake further improvements, the improvements contemplated being on the other side of Outfield Road, where they had nine acres which could <be > planted with native flora.
