PARLIAMENTARY NOTES.
TARANAKI MATTERS. By Telegraph (Special to Daily News). ■Wellington, Last Night. The Mayor of Waitara, with Cr. Hallam and the engineer (Mr. C. F. Dowsett), were introduced by Mr. Jennings, M.'P., to-day, to the Minister of Public Works, in connection with the damage to the Waitara bridge. The Minister promised to assist in contributing towards the necessary repairs. In reply to Mr. Jennings in the House to-day, the Minister of Agriculture .stated that the question of opening State butchery shops in Waitara and New Plymouth had been referred to '.he Board of Trade for consideration.
Answering a question b} Mr. 11'. J. Okey, Sir James Allen said the Government had already made provision to meet the obligations of soldiers with respect to life insurance, in the regulations providing for financial assistance to men of the expeditionary force. This enabled every case to 'be dealt with on its merits.
