SPORTING.

TARANAKI DISTRICT COMMITTEE. The Taranaki district committed met last night, when there were present: Messrs L. A. Nolan (in the chair), A. Alexander, L. B. Webster, W. H. Young, S. Pitt, A. S. Tonks, J. Gray, B. H. Chaney, G. Fraser, W. Hookham and E. F. Blundell. Apologies for nonattendance were received from Messrs A. Good, 0. W. Sole and J. McLeod. The following trainers' licenses were granted:—R. Brough, 0. Cox, James Brown, C. Jackson, John James, R. Johnson, P. Johnson, P. Coffey, W. F. Mantle, and E. George. Jockeys': W. J. L, Hawkins, W. J. L. Graham, Albert Ward, N. K. McDonnell, Apprentice jockeys': F. Cook, W. Ayers (subject to Canterbury J. C. having no objection). A transfer of apprenticeship of W. Ayers to E. George was approved. A claim against the general accident fund was recommended to be forwarded for the consideration of the general trustees. It was resolved to endorse the Greymouth Racing Club's request that train arrangements for race meetings be brought under the notice of the MinT.J.C. COMMITTEE MEETING.

The committee of the Taranaki Jockey Club met at the conclusion of the above meeting, the 1 same members being present, with the exception of Messrs Young, Pitt, Tonks and Gray. The chairman's action in authorising certain drainage at the entrance to the grounds was confirmed. It was decided to advertise the Fifth Taranaki Stakes, conditions for the race to be similar to those of previous years. Two new members were proposed. The secretary was instructed to pay over the special prize of £SO to the Taranaki Agricultural Society. It was decided to write the New Plymouth Borough Council with reference to metalling and tarring Gover street hill. Accounts amounting to £l3 3a 4d wer-i passed for ]:ayrueuc.
