DISTRICT NEWS.

URUTI. (From Our Own Correspondent). A very successful function was held at I ruti on Friday, the Gth inst., to raise Funds for assisting the Y.M.C.A. towards promoting the welfare and comfort of the boys at the front and the unfortunates who are temporarily at the back of the front, whether in" hospital or convalescent camp. Very many of the t'ruti families are represented" on the battlefields, and this, no doubt, made all the settlers do their utmost to make the function the undoubted and gratifying success that it was. The bazaar took the usual form—sale of work and gift produce, raffles, bran tubs, and for the sustenance of the buyers a dainty afternoon tea was served in one of the ante rooms. The unsold goods were disposed of and some great prices were realised. The evening's enjoyment was greatly augmented by a hair-dressing competition for men. A dance brought to an end an evening that will long be remembered by all those present. The gross takings amounted to £l2 Is (3d, and there are still some donations outstanding, while the expenses will be covered by a £5 note. The committee deserve the_ highest praise for the able wily in which the affair was managed, and are to be congratulated on the extremely gratifying result that rewarded their strenuous efforts.
