A SERIOUS ACCIDENT.

CAUSED BY GELIGNITE EXPLOSION. (From Our Durham Road Correspondent) A seriou3 accident happened to two sons of Mr. F. Dodunski, of Durham Road, on Saturday last. It appears that the two boys were working on the farm recently purchased from Mr. Geo. Mehrtens, and during the dinner hour -placed several plugs of gelignite on or near ihe stove in the residence to soften, previous to being used for blasting purposes. The gelignite exploded whilst the eldest (a youth of 20) was examining it, with th» result that he received serious injuries to his head, and severe burns and contusions on the rest of the body. The younger boy received severe burns and abrasions. The report of the explosion alarmed the residents, and Mr. Mischefski, living near-by, investigating the cause, noticed a volume of smoke issuing from the window of the room in which it occurred. He found the young* er boy groping about in th? smoke, calling for his brother, who was found senseless with his clothes burning and blood freely issuing from the severe wounds. Assistance was obtained, and the victims were driven to Inglewcod, and taken to a private hospital, where medical attention was speedily given, to alleviate their sufferings. It was found that the injuries to the boy were of a superficial nature, but that the elder brother had suffered a fracture of the skull in addition 'to severe flash injuries. Enquiries on Sunday Bhowed that he is doing as well a3 can be expected. The appearance of the house gives evidence of the terrible effect of the explosion, the stove being completely shattered, the chimney (a double one) blown almost to pieces, the roof much damaged, and other damages of a minor character. A number of sacks in the room were ignited, and there is no doubt the promptitude of Mr. Mischefski prevented the house being burned down, and the unfortunate youths with it. A large number of persons visited the scene on Sunday, and wonder was expressed that the two boys were not killed outright.
