Captain C, Humphries, who is reported to have received the Military Cross, is a native of . Christchurch, and has had a distinguished career during the war. Ha enlisted' at the outbreak of hostilities, and has been fighting on the West front almost eontinuously. On two occasions he Was wounded. Early in the war he received his.commission on the'field, and was decorated with the (D.C.M.
At Eltham on Friday last JJr and Mrs W. A, Flynn, late of the Eltham Hotel were farewelled by a party of friesds, and presented with an oak case containing a silver and mother of pearl fish land fruit service, suitably inscribed. Miss M. Young, who was closely associated with Mr. and Mrs. Flynn, was presented with a gold brooch, set with a spray of pearls. Messrs R. Masters (chairman), and E. Dixon and Trimble (members), of"the Taranaki Education Board, went to Wellington by the mail train yesterday. With Mr. Wilkinson, M.'P. (also a member of the board) they w v ill interview the Minister of Education to-day re the question of the disestablishment of the Hawera District High School and other educational matters.
