SECOND DIVISION LEAGUE.

A sub-branch of the Second Division League lias been formed at Cardiff, with tlie following committee:—Messrs W. Mander, C. Coldwell, T. Belton, T. Richarda, E. Bennett, G. Gable, and J. W. Rogers, with power to add to their number. >

Last evening a large meeting was held at Hawera, addresses being given by Messrs J. Clarke and 'P. Fitzhartiert, who dealt trenchantly with the treatment accorded soldiers and their dependents by the Government and the inadequacy of the separation allowance and pensions. At the conclusion of the meeting Mr. P. O'Dca moved and Mr. B. M'Carthy seconded the following resolution, which was unanimously carried:— "That this meeting desires to express its whole-hearted sympathy with the work of the League in its endeavors to aecure more adequate pensions and allowances for dependents as well as adequate pensions for all disabled soldiers." At an Auckland Second 'Division League meeting it was resolved to urge the immediate need for revisiqp ©f the 'scale of allowances pay and pensions, -Sft th*t .the dependents Qf -soldiers, present andfuture, may'not have to appeal to patriotic charity for assistance which ehould be provided by the State, urging facilities for the immediate examination of classes A and B and expressing the 'opinion that certificates should not be granted by private or semi-official persons, but that all ballots should be taken under the present system, and that exemptions other than for physical unfitness should be granted only by the Military Court of Appeal. Resolutions were carried regretting that there was no Government recognition of dependents other than wives and children, A meeting of the Waimate Plains reservists i 3 to be held to-night at the Manaia Town Hall, when New Plymouth speakers will deal with the Government's policy in regard to the treatment of returned men, and the inadequacy of the separation allowances and pensions.
