(From Our Own Correspondent.) TAII communications, letters, etc., left with Mr. H. J. Hopkins, bookseller, Mill receive prompt attention.] HOSPITAL BOARD. Stratford, July 10. The usual monthly meeting :was held this afternoon. Present: Mr. J. McAllister (chairman), and Messrs C. I). •Sole, E. McK. Morison, W. Rogers, J. Christoffel, E. Walter, and Athol Meredith. The Public Health requested further particulars re claim for subsidy for the Whangamomona District Nursing Association. A later communication stated that when the money raisetl had been paid to the Hospital Board a subsidy to the extent of £1 4s to the £1 will be paid. Dr. Valintine also notified his approval of the subsidy, provided it did not exceed £loo.—Received. Miss E. Blaine. Putaruru, applied to have her name placed on the probationer's list.—Received. Dr. Steven, medical superintendent, reported that during the month 28 patients were admitted, 24 discharged, and I died. There were 18 remaining in the hospital. The matron, Mrs. M. Fussell, reported that Nurse Belton had been successful in passing her final State examination. The Health Inspector, Mr. A. Gray, reported that during the month two diphtheria cases were reported and one removed to the hospital, occurring in the Stratford borough. One death from phthisis had occurred. Sis cases of diphtheria had been notified in the Stratford County.—Mr. Sole remarked that the report was very pleasing, and showed that the health of the public in and around Stratford was very satisfactory. This was concurred in 'by other members. Nurse Old, Whangamomona Medical Association, reported attending four cases during the month.—Received. The chairman reported that dnring the gale last week the boarded fence at the hospital was damaged.—lt was resolved to get eight totara posts. After passing accounts the Board rose.
MODEL FARM. The Stratford Model Dairy Farm committee met on Saturday. Present: Mearss. J. W. Deen (chairman), J. W. Boon, J. B. Richards, R. Dingle and S. Pitt. Plans and estimated cost of repairs to cottage and erection of new cowshed in concrete were considered. Repairs to the cottage, not exceeding £OO, were authorise:!, work to foe toy day labor. The erection of cowshed'will fee undertaken after detailed plans and speciflcaSons had .been considered at the next meeting. The stumping and clearing committee reported letting a contract to sFump and clear 20 acres, 10 acres to be ready iby August 4 and the 'balance by September 7, the work to be supervised by Messrs. Pitt and Richards. A letter is to the forwarded 'Mr. Dingle protesting against the property remaining being occupied by a tenant and his cattle, and requesting that they immediately vacate. Messrs Richards and Dingle were empowered to act regarding the selection of a farm foreman. A herd of 30 cross-bred cows and two working horses are to foe purchased and particulars secured of milking machine plants. Authority to execute conveyance of transfer and mortgage was passed. Also the payment of rent to the Public -Trustee amounting to £99 19s 2d. In the afternoon the committee adjourned to inspect the property. It was resolved to have a tunnel put in forthwith and prices made for gravelling or shingling aibout 13 chains.
GENERAL. I The Ansae Minstrels arc due to give an entertainment in the TaTiki Hall on Thursday evening. The whole of the nett proceeds go to the patriotic funds. This marks the first appearance of the minstrels at Tariki, and a fino programme of quaint negro melodies, farces, and sketches, together with patriotic ballad?, songs, etc., has been arranged. At the conclusion of the entertainment there will he a dance, so patrons may rely 011 having a very pleasant evening. Advantage was taken of the presence in town yesterday of Mr. A. M. Spilman, late of "the abattoirs, to present him with a case of pipes. This .was the gift of the butchers of Stratford, Mr. C. B. Wakli being the spokesman, who expressed appreciation of the uniform courtesy extended to them by Mr. Spilman during his term of office. The first rehearsal of "lolanthe." to be produced shortly by the Stratford Amateur Operatic Society, was held last night. The attendance was very satisfactory, and keen interest appears to tie shown, a desirafclc factor in the success of the opera. The annual congregational meeting of St. Andrew's Presbyterian Church was held last evening, the attendance being very good. The following deacons were elected: Messrs T. Ay 1 ward, H. Arthur, W. Brocklebank, D. Clark, H. E. Lawrence; H. MoK. Morison, H. C. Xorth, A. Patrick, W. Pettigrew, G. Smart, 11. N. Silk, and W.. B. Tissiman. The choir vestry is to be 'built as soon as funds are available. The Ladies' Patriotic Tea Room* and Mart on Saturday were controlled by the ladies of Bird road, under the leadership of Mesdames Phillips and C. Meuli. The takings for the day -were very satisfactory, being tea rooms £6 9s Cd, mart £ls 17s 6d. On Tuesday the, Hospital Board meets at 10 a.m. and the same evening the school committee hold their monthly meeting. During Saturday night or Sunday morning one of the large windows of Mr G. T. draper, in the Municipal Buildings, was broken.
