SECOND DIVISION.

A public meeting of the Second Division League will be held at Waitara to-night, when addresses will bo {riven by representatives of the New Plymouth League. "It is a great pity our legislators cannot go fully into the matter of soldiers' allowances and pensions like the gentlemen who have spoken to us to-night," said Mr. Dixon (Mayor) at Hawcra on Friday. "Then we would have adequate provision made, and injustices remedied. After listening to the facts and .figures placed before me by the New Plymouth gentlemen, I am, surprised at tht moderation of the demands of the League, and I hope Haiwera second reservists will to a man support the movement, which is on the right lines." (Applause). Mr. Nixon -went on to express regret that there should be any necessity for an agitation for better provision for wives and children; the Government should have granted them cheerfully without waiting for pressure to be exerted. The meeting decided to hold u public meeting next Friday evening and to take steps to ensure a large attendance. Over fifty attended a meeting of the Second Division reservists at Tariki on Friday night. Addresses were given by Messrs R. Masters.. Malone, and Skoglund, and it was unanimously deeiued to form a sub-branch with -Mr. Y. Bareness as president and Mr. J. Therkleson as lion, secretary, a committee of ten being set up.
