HAWTCRA AKPEAL OASES. The First Military Service Board sat on Saturday. The appeals of 0. H. Mars, J. H. Gwynne, A. Campbell, and J. Steele were dismissed, and appellants granted, leave until August 21; the appeals of A. Grooker and C. W. Carlson were also dismissed, leave being granted until September 18. The appeal of John Goodwin McCarty, dairy farmer, Manaia, a Bine die case, for whom Mr. Welsh appeared, was reconsidered. Johnston McCarty, father of tho appellant, said he had two sons ou« of four in camp; the other was a Second Division man, working his own farm, while the appellant assisted witness on his farm of 200 acres, on which he "was milking 70 cows. The married son's farm was opposite witness' farm. He could not manage the farm without appellant. To Captain Walker: He did not consider the question of. share-milling, as there was the difficulty of getting good men. Decision was reserved. The secition 35 appeal of Gerald O'Reilly, fanner, Waverley, was allowed, and his ballot appeal'was formally dismissed, appellant having Ibeeh' hoarded C2. 'Leslie William Catchpole, fawner, Tarata, for whom Mr. Spr&tt appeared, appealed on the grounds of public interest and undue hardship. The appellant, mho is married; stated that he was working a 317 acre, educational lease. Part of the land was cleared. Of four sons of military age three went away with the Main 'Body of the Expeditionary Force, two of whom were killed at Gallipoli. One son was still in France. To Captain Walker: He had not considered the question of a manager. A. B. Catchpple, dairy farmer, Mokoia, gave evidence as to the difficulty of working appellant's farm. Mr. Spratt said the appellant just missed the Second Division by a ifew weeks, and thought his case was one deserving of consideration. Decision was reserved. i The appeal of Martin Patrick Ford, farm hand, Makahu, for whom Mr. O'Dea appeared, a sine die case, was reconsidered. The appellant, in his evidence, whjfh was on tho same lines as previously, stated that he believed his younger brother and sisters could arrange the milking of the 35 cows, but the difficulty was in regard to tho cropping, which was done by the appellant. Decision was reserved. In the sine die appeal by Reuben Hartley, farmer, Awatuna, Mr, O'Dea, who appeared for the appellant, suggested that Hartley be re-examined, as he bad an artificial eye.
