THE SUBMARINE CAMPAIGN.
MONGARA ON NEW KUN. Melbourne, July 7. The Mongara was a vessel 8205 tons, owned by the British India Company. She was returning from her first visit to Australia as a mail steamer. No details have been received concerning Iter loss. ANOTHER NORWEGIAN VICTIM. Copenhagen, July 6. The Norwegian steamer Benguela. which was insured for a million kroner fnr a voyage from England to Philadelphia, wag submarined after the crew had been transferred to a Spanish steamer. AMERICAN STEAMER SUNK. Received July 8, 5.5 p.m. Washington, July 6. The American steamer Orleans lias been submarined. Four deaths resulted. NO LIVES LOST ON THE MONGOLIA. United Service. Received July 8, 5.5 p.m. London, July 6. No lives were lost on the Mongolia. All were landed at Messina, and are proceeding to England. LOSS OF AUSTRALIAN MAIL. Received July 8, S.ft p.m. London, July 7. The post office announces that the homeward mail from Adelaide of May 22 has been lost. A MINE-SWEEPER MINED. Received July 8, 5.5 p.m. London, July 7. An Admiralty mine-sweeper in the Mediterranean has been mined and sunk. Ten men arc missing. FRENCH SUBMARINE TORPEDOED. Received July 8, 5J5 p.m. London, July 7. A French official report states that • French submarine was torpedoed and •unk by an enemy submarine in the Mediterranean. Several of the officers and crew were lost, only nine being saved. A DESTROYER SUNK. Received July 8, 10.50 p.m. London, July 8. The Admiralty reports that a British destroyer, on July 6, was torpedoed and sunk in the North Sea, An officer and seven men were killed.
