POTATO RIOTS. CROWDS DEFY SOLDIERS. Amsterdam, July 3. ' Later potato riots were more serious ' than the earlier ones. Crowds looted the barge* and truck?. Street battles occurred with the police and soldiers. The crowds were defiant; women bared their breasts and dared the soldiers to shoot. Eventually the soldiers fired, killing one and wounding many. Received July 5, 10 p.m. Amsterdam, July 5. There was further food rioting. Women stormed a frozen meat storehouse and took and distribute*! four pigs. They plundered the butchers' shops. The troops charged and cleared the street. TAKING CHARGE OF WAR PRISONERS. i Received July 5, 6.46 p.m. Amsterdam, July 4. j The Duteh Government has offered to : receive 10,000 war prisoners, including civilians, if the Anglo-German conference will fix the proportions. The conference accepted the offer, and the Dutch Foreign Minister signed the protocol.
