AMERICAN TRANSPORTS.
ATTACKED BY SUBMARINES. Washington, July 4. It is officially announced that all; General Pershing's expeditionary force have arrived and not lost a single life. The Germans made the first submarine attack at 10.30 on the night of June 22, in a part of the Atlantic which it was presumed was free of submarines. The convoy protected the transports so effectually that the U boat's torpedo fire was scattered and ineffective. The second attack was made beyond the. rendezvous where the transports picked up additional American warships. The attack completely failed, and it is known definitely that one U boat was sunk. Reports indicate that another was destroyed. Evidently the Germans were specially prepared for an attack on the transports, allotting several submarines for that purpose. Federal officials are investigating the report that Germany was fully informed of the date of departure and the route of the expeditionary force. Officials are now redoubling the search for spies. Much speculation prevails as to how the information was conveyed to I Germany. There is an increasing susj pieion that a secret wireless plant exI isti in Mexico.
