We made an important advance on a fiont of four miles, over a mile in depth, and captured a series of strong defensive systems on both banks of the Souchez river, covering Lens. We gained the whole objectives and inflicted considerable casualties, our lofises being slight. The enemy's positions of great strength, and tactically of strategic importance, are now in our hands. We repulsed raiders north of Gouzeaucourt front.
