THE BENSLEY FUND.

BAND RECITAL. >< Owing to the gale yesterday the Citterns' Band did not play at Mr. Honeyfield's grounds at Moturoa yesterday, but gave the recital at the Picture Theatre, the proceeds being devoted to the Bensley Fund, The following programme was submitted;— 'Marehe Remaine" (Gounod); overture, "Vanessa" (Hethcrington); vocal duet, "Watchman, What of the Night!" (Satjea.nl), by Messrs F. Hooker and W. Duistan; cornet solo, "Aurtralil" (Lithgaw), uv Bandsman K. F. T4ylor; choria, "Comrades in Arms" (Adelphe Adam); vocal solos, "0, Dry Those Tern" (Teresa del Rlence) imd "A t/ullaby," by Mr. W. Dunstan; march, "Bravo( The Anzacs" (Rimmer); selection, "Latent" (Lewis Ham); while, by special request, Mr. McLeod played "Klilatney," and Bandsman McDonald gave "Mary of Argyle" in an acceptable minner. Mr. McLeod explained to those present th(tt it was with considerable regret the hand were obliged to resort to the indoor • programme, but the cold, rough weather, was all against visiting the grounds of Mr. Honeyfield, and they felt g'ratefdl to the management of the theatre for placing their building at the disposal of . the movement. The conductor wisely asked the audience in the early portion 6f the afternoon to "give 'him tie tip" 1 if the playing of the band was too heavtf, as this was the first occasion on whiw a brass band had played there, a<|d jbe had not been able to' test the general accoustica. This wo® done after, the firit item, and the remainder of the recital was very much enjoyed. Mr. McLeod also thanked Mr. and Mrs. Hooker, and Messrs Dunstan, tfpiro, and Shone for contributing to the programme. The col- • lection amounted to £ls, and included £•2 14s forwarded by Mrs. Honeyfield and 5s sent by Mrs. Riddick. As the expenses are likely to be very small, this ijpuat bfe considered to be very satisfactory,, especially when the state of the weather is taken into account. THE FUND. '£ «. o.
