ANNUAL MEETING. The annual meeting of the New Ply- $ mouth Bowling Club was held in their t: pavilion last night, about 40. members 1 being present, Mr. J. C. Morey, vice- A president, occupied the chair in the un- li avoidable absence of the president, Mr. a M. Fraser. b ANNUAL REPORT. * The report of the committee stated J that the financial position of the club I was good, the overdraft having been re- ry duced from £3O 10s fid to £l2 Ms Gd. The Taranaki Banner.—The club's re- j preventatives came out on top in the s northern section in this competition, but 0 lost in the play-off with the Pihama Club, which was congratulated on its success. , Saturday competition for the Gilniouv , Cup.—This competition was won by the club's representatives after a. very keen struggle. ' The champion cup was won for the second year by Mr. Harry Fookes, whilst the singles championship was won. by Mr O. N. Firth. - I A team from'our club, skipped by Mr. H. Smart, entered for the tournament at Palmerston North, and was successful * in winning, having bad only one loss ' throughout the tournament. The team } was Messrs Luscombe, Hill, Johnson, H. J Smart (skip). As this is the first occa- J sion on which one of the big tournaments has been won by a team from I our club, Mr. H. Smart is presenting a framed photo of the team to the club, and the thanks of the club are due to him for the gift. • Mr. H. Smart also skipped a team consisting of Messrs McLeod, Fookes, Bary, and H. Smart (skip) in the Dominion tournament at Wellington, which got into the semi-finals, but just failed in winning. Appreciation was expressed of the ser. vices rendered to the club by Mr. Luscombe as warden. , A scheme for a new and larger green was submitted to the committee, and was carefully considered, but it was decided that in the meantime the committee could not see its way to recommend tho scheme being gone on with, on account of the financial position. The chairman, in moving the adoption of the report, congratulated tlu? club on its very satisfactory position. The secretary, Mi'. W. N. Ewing, stated that all subscriptions bad been paid with the exception of one. The motion was seconded by Mr. W. J. Penn and carried. ELECTION OF OFFICERS. The chairman said he had received a letter from the president, Mr. Fraser, stating that he did not wish to again be elected to that position, and expressing regret that the secretary, Mr. W. N. Ewing, had absolutely decided to resign. ' The chairman moved a hearty vote of thanks to Mr. Ewing for his services as secretary for the past fourteen years. The motion was seconded by Mr. W. J. Penn and" carried by acclamation. Mr. W. F. Brooking was elected president, and Messrs J.'C. Morey and H. C. Fookes vice-presidents unopposed. Messrs W. J. Chaney and A. K. 'Smart were nominated for the position of secretary and treasurer, and a ballot resulted in favor of Mr. Chaney. Eleven nominations were received for the six vacancies ori.the committee, and the ballot resulted in the election of . Messrs R. Cock, A. K. Smart, J. R. Hill, F. W. Hall, E. Bary, and C. N. Johnson. Mr. ,J. S. S. Mediey was re-appointed auditor, and the president and Messrs A. K. Smart and 0. N. Firth delegates ' to the centre. PRESENTATION OF TROPHIES. Trophies won during last season were presented as follows: — Champion cup and Mr., M. Eraser's ' trophy.—Mr. H. C. Fookes, who becomes '. the owner of the cup through having won it two years in succession. | Handicap singles, Mr. J. 0. Terry's , cup and trophy.—Mr. 0. N. Firth. ■ GENERAL. An honorarium of £lO 10s was voted r "o the retiring secretary for his services during the pnst year. ; Mr. J. R. ' Mr. Penn said that the Hawera club , had passed a resolution to the effect that , while the, war was on, no liquor shouh. be provided on the greens during tournaments, and hail asked for an expression of opinion "on the proposal from other clubs.—Held over, pending the re- [ eeipt of a communication from tlie Ha- \ wera club. ' The matter of procuring a chainplon- \ ship cup for the ensuing year was left , in the hands of the committee. , Mr. Hill, on behalf of Mr. Smart, pre- , sented the eliill with a large framed photograph of the team that had won -' the tournament at'Palmerston North. p and the chairman returned the thanks of the club for the gift. Mr. C. Carter suggested that the committee should consider the advisability ' of reinstating pairs matches in the seaV son's programme. e Mr. J.
