PROTECTING MINERS' CLAIMS. 'llokitika, >Tuue 18. At tlio silting of the Military Appeal Hoard to-duy, the chairman, Mr. Evans, S.M., referred to the published remarks of Warden Hutchison, who took exception ion "latemcnt made by Mr. Evans at Hi;- vious sitting, when he said there v.. no trouble in getting twelve months' protection of a claim at Kanieri to enable a man to go to the front. Mr. Hutchison had since declined to allow more than six months, and Mr. Evans expressed absolute astonishment that there was a warden in the district who, under the circumstances, would not grant such an application the full term, and ho was going to beo that this protection was obtained. It was absurd to grant only six months to a man going to the front. The appeal was adjourned to the next sitting.
