' GAMING HOUSE PROSECUTIONS. By Telegraph.—Press Association. 1 Auckland, June 18. As a sequel to the police raid oh a Chinese restaurant, Young lice was charged with being the keeper of a common gaming house. Decision was reserved. Fourteen other Chinamen were fined £2 for being found in a common gaming house. Tbe charges against five others were withdrawn. ' . Auckland, Jan. 19. At the Police Court this morning the Magistrate fined the proprietor of the Chinese gaming-house £SO and costs, stating that there were objectionable features in the case which were taken into account. THE TE ANAU FIRE INQUIRY. Napier, June IS. The adjourned inquest on M. Donnelly, who died in hospital as the result of 'the Te Anau fire, was commenced today. The,officers and crew gave evidence, but the coroner expressed a desire to know more about the occurrence, and the evidence of two other firemen, now in hospital, is to be takifti to-raorrow. A COMPENSATION CASE. Wellington, June 10. In the Arbitration case Rudolph Hirter v. W. Cable and Co., a claim for compensation for the loss of an eye as the result of an accident on October 2, 1914, while the plantiff was employed in defendant's foundry, judgment was entered by consent for £2lO 15s. The Court ordered £175 to be paid to the Public Trustee and invested on the plaintiff's behalf until he attained the age of 21. PUBLIC 'SERVICE ASSOCIATION. Wellington, June 10. The annual conference of the New Zealand Public Service Association was opened this morning. The report stated that the total membership has increased to 5167, an addition of 1127 for" 12 months. Of these /Some 700 are serving with the expeditionary Sorce. The : financial statement shows a credit balance of £5Bl. FIRE AT BLACKBALL MINE. Groymouth, June 19. A fire occurred at the Blackball Coal Company's mine, No. 7 bank, last evening. The outbreak has 'been sealed off. The extent of the damage is not known, but the mine is idle to-day in consequence.
