AX INDECENT PICTURE. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Auckland, Last Night. Mr. Cutten, S.M., gave liis reserved decision on a charge against Spenuley Clarkson, of exhibiting publicly an indecent picture, entitled "The Sleeping Venus," a colored print of a celebrated picture. Tho Magistrate held that the picture might be a very beautiful work of art, and quite proper in its place, but exhibited in a shop window it would have a mischievous tendency, and was therefore legally indecent. Defendant was fined £5 and costs, increased to £8 to enable defendant to appeal.
