Private Lionel Lewis, son of Mr. Lewis, of Eltham, has died from wounds. Mr. S. Robb, of the town clerk's office, was appointed Electric meter reader at last night's meeting of the New Plymouth Borough Council. Mr. Frank Drake, of Inglewood, hat received word that hiß only son, Privato Alfred Drake, who left with the 10th Reinforcements, has been slightly wounded. " , Miss Janet M. Smith, BJL, at present headmistress of the Abbotsford acbooi, near Dunedin, has been appointed assistant at the New Plymouth Girls' High School. , Mr. McMurriy, one of the assistant masters at the New Plymouth High School, is going into catr'p at the end of the month. His place on the school staff will be taken by" Miss E. Billsns. 8.A., of Patea. At the Catholic Church, New Ply. mouth, on Wednesday, Jutie 15th, Mr. Charles .Tames, eldest son of Mr.' m! O'Neill, Te Wera, was married', to M*iss Bridget Teresa (Birdie) daughter of Mr James OS«ill, County Cork, Ireland. Yesterday's casualty list contains the name of Captain K. F. C. Scott, who has died of wounds. Scott, who was on the staff of the New Plymouth post office at the time he enlisted, left with the fitii Reinforcements, holding th* rank of lieutenant. Advice has been received from the Minister of Defence that Private J. Gib- ■ son Hughes (son of Mr. and Mrs. T. E. Hughes, New Plymouth) was wounded during the recent heavy fighting in France. Private Hughes, who is attached to the New Zealand Medical Corps, is remaining with his unit. News is to hand of the death in action of Second-Lieutenant P. W. Watson, a son of Mr. P. H. Wntson, Bulb. Much sympathy will be felt for Mr. Watson, who was nt one time manager of thn local branch of the Bank of New Soi-Mi Wales, and for Mrs. Watson, wl'o Is daughter of Mr. John Kelly, Gill Street, Sew Plymouth. Lieutenant Bollinger wa« an old boy of the New Plymouth High School. 011 leaving which lie joined the local branch of the Bank of Ifew Smith Wales. After some years' service here, during which time he was Wellknown in football circle*, he was transferred to tho Hustings 'branch, enlisting from the latter place. He took part in the landing at Gallipoll and saw 1 much service there. Shortly after the evacuation ho was, with Sergeant-Major Bertram!, of Urenui. sent back to New Zealand for a commission, and he left again as a second-lieutenant in the 10th Rein* foreements. The news of his death will be received with deep regret by all Who knew him, and sincere sympathy felt, for his parents and relatives. Mr. Thomas Drake, another of Taraimki's respected old identities, passed away at Fitzroy yesterday} at the advanced ago of 80 years. Deceased, who wits born in England, practised as n lawyer in Holborn, London. He came to New Zealand with his wife and family in 1875 by the ship Rodney, and after residing in the Nelson district for a * year took up haul in the Inglewood district, where he was one Of the earliest settlors. Some fifteen years ago he retired, and after living in Hawera for a few years came to Fitooy to reside. His first wife predeceased him some twelve years. He leaves a widow and ft family of three daughters, MetJatnea James Grant (New Plymouth), ft. MclC. Morison (Stratford), W. C. Besky (HurIcyvillc), and six sons, Messrs Thomas, Arthur. Joshua, Frances, Geo. W., and Harry S. Drake, all of Inglewood.
