Word has been' received that Lieut George Weston, of the Ist Canterbury Regiment, was wounded at Messines. Mr. J. Harvey, of the local Lands and Survey Office, has received word that he has passed his final subject in the accountancy professional examination. I The death is reported at the front of Lieutenant Gerald Fell, barrister, of Wellington. He enlisted early in 1916, and received a commission on the day of his departure. —Press Association. Privates Garry (Manaia) and Marriott (Hawera), just arrived fromi'the front, were warmly eulogised by, the Mayor of Hawera, on their arrival there on Wednesday. The death is reported at Auckland of an old colonist in the person of Mr. J. C. Morrin, a highly-esteemed resident of that city, and at one time a prominent j business man of Auckland. He arrived in Auckland as far back as the 'fifties, and was a well-known personality in the city until his retirement some ten or; twelve years ago, since which time he has been a resident of Otaliuhu. Decease ed had reached the age of 87. He leaves behind him a widow and' a grown-up family, including Mr. L. Morrin, of Cambridge, Mr. C. Morrin, of Auckland, j-Mr. Vincent Morrin, recently returned from the front, Mrs. R. W. S. Ballantyne, of Wellington, Mrs. A. Littler, of Auckland, Mrs. W. J. Geddis, of Napier, Mrs. McDee, of Otahuhu, and Miss Morrin.

Several references have been made in the London papers to the death of Tpr. A. It. Fitzherbert, N.Z.E.F. One says: •'The Fitzherberts have always been a fighting family. The father of Tpr, Fitzherbert was Lieut.-Colonel R. H. Fitzherbert, of the Rifle Brigade. He was living in retirement when the Crimean War broke out, and with a bar-rister-brother promptly joined the Italian Legion for service. Tpr. Fitzherbert was a trooper by choice, and for a time his 33 -year-old son, Geoffrey, who enlisted with him, was his sergeant. The son, so badly wounded that he is unfit for further service, is on Ilia way back
