BEEKEEPERS' CONFERENCE. By Telegraph.--Press Association. Wellington, June 7. The conference of Beekeepers' Associations resolved that the Department' of Agriculture be asked to allow of export of a small shipment of honev in wooden boxes, in order to test whether this package could he substituted for tins.

Owen James Francis M'Kee was tried by court-martial to-day on a charge of refusing lawful commands by neglecting to attend for medical examination on May 2. He pleaded not) guilty. His idea of patriotism did not coincide with the official view. ' The case is proceeding. BOOKMAKERS PROSECUTED. f Ohristchurch, Last Night. Charges that on April 9, 1(117. being bookmakers as defined by the Gaming Act, 190S, and persons excluded by regulations dated May 17, 1911, of the Canterbury Jockey Club, made under the I provisions of the Gaming Act, they were unlawfully on the Christchurch racecourse when the racecourse was being used by the Canterbury Jockey Club for a race meeting, were preferred against several reputed bookmakers in the 'Magistrate's Court to-day. From the evidence it appeared that the Jockey Club tolerated the presence of bookmakers on a certain part of the course, near the scraping sheds, hut the committee bad decided to clear them out, hence the charges. Harry Hulston. who said he had not made a bet since the bookies wore abolished, 'was fined £l, and charges against Thomas Barrett, who remarked that he was there as a guest of the club, being a returned soldier, and John W. Masscy were dismissed. Edgar Neate, wbo was fined £l, admitted that he was a bookmaker, but alleged that Detective Kmetzer had appointed Mm a sort of agent to keep back '•'the boys," who were told they could stay there so long as they did not moye further up to the grandstand. FINES IN BETTING-HOUSE CASES. Wellington. Last Nieht. At the Magistrate's Court,, Gilbert Henry Price, charged with being the. owner or occupier of premises he used as a common gaming-house, was fined £4O, with the option of two months' imprisonment. John Henry West and Waipuki Smith, charged with assisting Price, were fined £2O (alternative one Inontb) and £lO (alternative 21 days' imprisonment) respectively. Denis Foley Holland, William Andrews, William Thomas Wortley, George A. Peacock, and Thomas Harding, charged with being found without lawful excuse in a common gamine-house, were lined 20s each. Albert William Organ, 'who kept a bookstall in the vestibule of the Grand Hotel, on a charge of betting on licensed premises, was fined £25. with the option of a month's imprisonment. The charges against Albert Vance Steward for keeping a'common gaminghouse, and against George Dyhrbcrg for assiting Steward, were partly heard, and then adjourned until to-morrow. RECORD MARCH RY AMBULANCE MEN. Wanganui, Last Night. Over I*lo men from the ambulance camp at Awa.puni reached Wanganui at 4 o'clock this afternoon, after marching 54 miles in two days, which constitutes a record for New Zealand, if not for Australasia. Major Dudley, camp commandant, was in.charge of the column. The men take part in field manoeuvres to-morrow.
