AMERICAN FLEET. receives Warm welcome. Received June 7, 5 p.m. Rio de Janeiro, June 6. An American squadron of warships has arrived, and was enthusiastically ! welcomed. It is understood the squadron will relieve the Anglo-French on patro! work of the South Atlantic, and wil have free use of the Brazilian ports. AMERICAN MERCHANTMEN.
BAGS ENEMY SUBMARINE.
i Washington, June 0. The State Department is officially advised that an American armed merchantman sunk a submarine They fought for ninety minutes. The twentyfifth shot pierced the submarine, and her stern rose out of the water; then she Bank. The Navy Department is convinced that the submarine has been bagged. The submarine flew no flag.
