PATRIOTIC WORK.
URENUI GIRLS' WORK. ■ ACKNOWLEDGED FROM FRANCE. Last winter, at the instance of Miss Moody, the Urenui girls formed a sewing guild. With the help of funds they collected and proceeds from a concert they made up a few cases of clothing to the value of about £l5O and sent these into New Plymouth to Mrs. Burgess, who kindly saw to their being sent away. The following acknowledgments have been received:— Dear Miss Moody,-=i am writing on behalf of my sister. Lady Harvey, the uotninittee, and myself, to say ltow deeply we value and appreciate the generous contribution of clothing sent us by the Girls' Belgian Sewing Guild, and to hear of the long rides they took in order to come together to help ns in our efforts to assist the poor Belgian women and children. 1 enclose copies of letters from Madam Helleputte and Monsieur Scholiast, our two presidents, from the Government de Havre, which speak for j themselves. The cases have I>een very long of delivery because of the shortage of labor We always wait with keenest personal interest all the gifts sent us from New Plymouth, and we have the double pleasure of knowing the amount of feeling and interest taken by you all in our work here. Surely are w« all knitted together, the different workers being in touch and with one great aim in need, truth and justice ,in victory. Thanking each one of you again most gratefully for all that you do,--Beliere me very truly touts, ALICE OLIFHANT MURRAY. The following is an extract from a letter from Her Excellency, Madam Helleputte, Lo Havre:—
Dear London mail has arrived, and we have just finished the unpacking of the precious gifts you -Jiave sent, and I have to thank you again very warmly. If I may express a wish it is that for the moment we are absolutely without warm clothing for women,, children, boys and girls From 1 to 14 years. Everything arrived in perfect order and excellent condition, and was extremely useful. I thank you for thinking of us for future and still more for what you have done for the poor Belgians in France as well aa all those who have joined in your efforts" to aid us. Monsieif Schollaert, the president of the Belgian Chamb.r of Representatives, Le Havre, also writes:—
We have received with great satisfaction the packages mentioned in your letter of last month Everything arrived in good order and will be of the greatest use to U3 in relieving the unfortunate. With our best thanks, yours, etc., L. SCHOLLAERT.
