NEW PLYMOUTH v. INGLEWOOD. The New Plymouth Club had a most interesting and friendly match with the Inglewood Club yesterday. Taking advantage of the holiday, the former journeyed to Inglewood by the early train;, so that an all-day match might b'e played, four-hall matches being played in the morning and singles in the afternoon. In both competitions the Inglewood Club was successful, beating the visitors by three games in the morning and seven games to five in t!io afternoon. Following are the details, New Plymouth players mentioned first:— .Four-balls.—Johns and Newenham all square with Gudgeon and Darlow) Corrigan and Wyllie lost to Sutherland and Marshall, C and 5; Mcßeth and Hutchen lost to O'Carroll and Surrey, 6 and 5; Bloxam and, Austin all square with C. O'Carroll and Brown; Webster and Smytlie lost to Lile and Geddes, 1 down. Singles.—Johns beat Gudgeon, 2 up; Newenham lost to Darlow, 2 down; I Wyllie lost to Johnston. 2 down; Hutchen lost to P. O'Carroll. 7 and S; j Austin lost to Sutherland. •" and 3; Iftaim lost to C. O'Carroll. The members of the New Plymouth Club are greatly indebted to the Inglewood members for the very pleasant entertainment provided. With their usual generous hospitality they had provided luncheon at the Inglewood Hotel, and afternoon tea on the ground at the conclusion of the matches. The links were in capital order, the putting greens particularly so, and this very materially enhanced the enjoyment of the visitors, who will long remember the visit of 1917 as one of the most pleasant which have been made.
