TURF TOPICS. (By "Moturoa"). The Auckland Racing Club's steeplechase meeting will be continued to-day (Monday), and concluded on Wednesday. Sandy 'Paul is nicely treated in the big steeples at Gisborne, and his party will probably take on the trip. Gluepot, winner of the Wanganui steeples, has had a rocky career, and was at various times sold for £l7 and £3O. Thus a contemporary scribe on St. Elmn:—"The aged gelding was much above herself in condition at Wanganui!" Playoff pulled up lame after racing at Wanganui. Referring to the use of artificial eyes for horses during the present war, a contemporary states that the practice is hardly likely to spread itself to the racecourse. Apparently the only parties on the racecourse that use 'em are the stipes! Queer item from a Northern paper: "Chilblain has been 'scratched' for the Jervois Handicap," It is a bad plan to scratch chilblains. Why not try Fluffem's Chilblain Cure! Winning two-year-olds for the season:—Hymestra £2350, Estland £2125, Biplane £IBSO, Simonides £1045, Ample £1275, Gamecock £1270, Crowhurst £1065, Vagabond £IO3O. To-day the Otaki meeting opens. Amongst the likely starters are Gang Awa' and Veto, which are quoted ''full book" by the "double kings." Otter was jumped over big fences at Wanganui on Friday, and was railed j-thrnugli to Otaki on Saturday.
