30th REINFORCEMENTS.
WIPING OUT THE SHORTAGES, By Telegraph.--Prose' Association. Wellington, Last Night. The mobilisation of the 30th Reinforcements will be completed to-morrow, and recruits from the various districts will be in the segregation caiups, Tauherenikau, early next week. Some havo reached camp already. The reinforcement is being mobilised about 300 men over strength so ns to effect a substantial reduction in the shortage that has been carried forward from oneddraftt t to another since last year. It contains « Bigger proportion of ballotted men than any previous reinforcement.. The shortage persisted for much longer than Wt* anticipated when the first ballots wero held. The recent big ballots, the expiration o f the terms of suspension granted by the Military Service Board, and the increasing effectiveness of the recruiting organisation under the Act, are swelling the lists of men available tor service, and thd authorities are confident tliftt each future reinforcement .will be mobilised above its strength until the shortage is wiped out. It should be understood that the shortage never involved the dospateh of reinforcement* from New Zealand below the proper strength, calculated on a definite percentage of the fortes the Dominion had undertaken to maintain in the field. What happened is that the period Of training in New Zealand has been reduced in the ease of some incn, but the training has been made up in England before the men are required in the field.
