THE WHEAT DEAL.

WAS THE iPKICE TOO HIGH! (Special Correspondent); Wellington, May 30. An official announcement of the details of the Government's purchase of Australian wheat is still delayed. The obvious inference is that Ministers are not over-pleased with the bargain that has been made on their behalf. If the price to' be paid by New Zealand is 5s 6d f.o.b. at Australian ports, the Minister for Agriculture can point to the fact that the Federal authorities have fixed' the export price a trifle higher than this. But the fact that the Imperial Government is unable to move from Australia the wheat that has been 'bought at less than os a bushel f.0.b., and the further fact that huge quantities of Australian wheat are threatening l to become a complete loss owing to lack of transport and storage, certainly suggest that New Zea!and i 3 not paying the lowest possible price.
