BRITISH. BOMBARDMENT. WORK. OF MONITORS. v Milan, May 30. Later particulars of the work of the British monitors in the Gulf of Trieste show that the bombardment battered tha Austrian defences from Prosecco to Opeina. There was much air fighting until the Italians achieved the mastery. The monitors have resumed the bombardment and are attacking military works on the southern Bhore of the Gulf. HEAVY ARTILLERYING, GAINS EXTENDED. Receivc<\ May 31, 5.5 p.m. Rome, May 30. Italian official: There is heavy artillerying on the Julian front from Mont Cticco to Mont Votlice, east of Gorizia. We extended our gains west of Bedeaaza. EVACUATING TRIESTE. AUSTRIAN DEFENCES RAPIDLY " CRUMBLING. New York, May 3D. The Paris rcorespondent of the New Vork Herald quotes the Rome correspondent of the Se Journal as stilting that tho Auslripis are evacuating Trieste, and that the archives have been sent to Vienna and the money in the banks to Laibach The defences barring the Italians' progress are rapidly crumbling and the resistance is losing vigor.
