AMEIRCA'S AIMS. CAUSE OP LIBERTY] Washington, May 30. President Wilson, speaking at the Decoration Day services, said that with the help of God America would show ! ahe was bom to serve mankind. America joined the other nations to fight out the cause of human liberty. The present struggle was really a struggle in defence of American honor arid American rights, but also the greater struggle of men who love liberty everywhere. There wore times when words seemed empty and actions great. These times had arrived. America would have a chance to vindicate that which she professed. FOOD AND REVENUE. | UMREST IN CONGRESS. / : Washington, May 30. The Food Bill provides a maximum penalty of three years' imprisonment for price-raising speculations. Mr. Hoover has determined to cut profits, and proposes small boards to deal with each commodity. Unrest is evident in Congress owing to the Senate Finance Committee apparently seeking to tax consumers and allow the wealthy Ix> escape. It pro : proposes heavy taxes on sugar, cocoa and coffee, but no tax on amusements, jewellery, picture films, or chewing gum. The House of Representatives intends to restore the latter to the Revenue Bill when the measure reaches the House. CHINESE LABOR. ' Washington, May 30. It has been decided not to allow the importation of Chinese laborers on a big scale.
