Mr. C. H. Burgess returned from Wellington by tho mail train last night. A Press Association message from London states that Sir Ernest Shackleton has returned to England. The Rev. W. T. Fraser, Maori assistant curate of Rotorua, has been appointed chaplain to Narrow Neck 'camp. He will report for duty on June 14. Sergeant V. C. Davies, of the 27th Reinforcements, is at present spending his final leave in New Plymouth. On his return to camp he will sit for his commission.
The Rev. C. A. Tisdall, vicar of EllersI lie, hag been appointed lion, canon of St. Mary's Cathedral, Parnell. Mr. Tisdall wits formerly archdeacon of Tau."anga, in the diocese of Wniapu, and for TO years was vicar at Rotorua. . Lieut, C, S. Geddis, of Napier, son of Mr. W. ,T. Geddra, managing editor of the New Zealand Times, has been promoted to the rank of captain in the field. He left with the 7th Mounteds, and is now in command of a machine-gun company in France. He was wounded in the Somme battle on September 15, A telegram from Blenheim reports the death of Mr. John Reid, aged 01, the manager of the Loan and Mercantile Agency Company, and ex-president of the Chamber of Commerce, who for monv years has been prominent in the commercial and public life of Marlborough, Mr. G. B. Hoojcer,- designing engineer in the Public Work? Department, Wellington, son of Mr. Joseph Hooker, goes into camp with the 32nd Engineers this month. His brother, Gnr. L. W. Hooker, formerly teller in the Bank of New Zealand, Carterton, is with, the 22nd Reinforcements.
