Before dealing finally with the curt tailment of the number of totallsator permits during the coming racing season, the Government is watching and waiting a reply from the Racing Conference. Two alternative proposals have been submitted to the conference for the reduction of the number of racing days, namely, one third or one half. The matter must be dealt with soon, because the season commences on August 1. It is understood the conference will not agree with the Government that such * heavy reduction is necessary.
