MOKAU. SCHOOL COMMITTEE MEETING. (From Our Own Correspondent), A meeting of the above took place on the night of the 28th instant, when there were present: Messrs S. Whitehead, H. Maine, ,T. Terrill, 11. J. Smith, .1. L. Maedcnald (chairman). The School Committr.es' Association wrote re remits to conference and .annual fee.—lt was resolved that it was too late as regarded the first-named, and that the second be paid.

The secretary was requested to inquire of the Awakino Committee what would he a suitable, time for a meeting of both committees to arrange school boundaries. Tt was decided to ask the Education Board, whether it would not be advisable in the event of the teachers rcquir; insr temporary leave of absence in oases of urgency, that application should be made to the chairman of the committees affected in the first instance, instead of to the Education Board. Several matters about the school were left for Messrs Whitehead and Terrill to report on. The question of "lass above school door, and a new pate into the playground were left in the hands of Messrs Sampson and Macdoh'ald. (PATRIOTIC COMMITTEE. The Mokau Patriotic Committee of the North Tarannki Patriotic League met on Monday night, the 28th instant, when there were present: Messrs H. Mnmt (chairman), S. Whitehead, H. .T. Smith, J. Terrill, J. L. Mardonald. Mr A. «. Sampson was elected a member of tho committee. Mr. Terrill's offer of firewood, and Mr. Sampson's offer of cutting it np by machine, were gratefully accepted. The chairman was deputed to interview suitable persons with a view to having necessary work done immediately after the patriotic dances. It was decided that £3O from the Committee's fund be forwarded to tha parent society at Waitara, with the recommendation that it he apportioned as follows:—Y.M.C.A. £lO, Red Cross £7 10s, Wounded Soldiers' Fund £7 10s, Salvation Army £5. It may be mentioned that the Mokau Committee hold dances regularly every fortnight throughout the winter months, the proceeds—less small incidental expenses—'being entirely devoted to patriotic purposes. So far, tho response oF the public has been most gratifying. With a good floor, and the retention of the services of Mrs. Christofferson—a highlyqualified pianist, the committee look forward to another successful season. Tho chairman especially wishes to recognise the splendid efforts put forth in aid of the funds by the ladies and gentlemen of Messrs Johnston and Davis' Mohokatina station. By means of sports, colecteions and subscriptions, these good people have been enabled to hand over to the Mokau (Patriotic Committee, through their treasurer, Mr. Horace lnnis, the handsome, sum of £27 10s. When the size of the community is taken into consideration, such a result is beyond praise.
