Wellington provincial' conference. . remits carried. By Telegraph.—'Press Association, Marton, Last Night. The annual conference of the Wellington Province Farmers' Union, commenced this morning The following remits Were passed: That the Government see that all owners of wheat growing land be asked to grow wheat in proportion to the acreage they own, whether they produced wheat last year or not; that in place of the excess profits tax as at present levied, the graduated land and income tax should* be increased, nnd that exemption should be lowered; that rlie conference considers the- butter-fat tax imposed by the Government on one section of the dairy farmers is totally unjust, and urges tiic conference to use every endeavor to secure its removal, the Government to he asked to refund all moneys collected: that it he a recommendation to the Efficiency Board that in all cases of appeals of slaughtermen and shearers the Trustee Brr ' report be obtained for presentation to liic Military Service Board before arriving at a decision; that realising the prosperity of the country is dependent on sustaining production, the Appeal Board be asked to exempt genuine ploughmen and shepherds until the grain and lambing season is finished; that the Minister of Education be thanked for the encouragement given in rural education in establishing bursaries for agricultural .students, and urge that his larger scheme be pushed on to increase the output; that local bodies be empowered to borrow such' monoy ns is deemed necessary for the construction or improvement of roads.
