THE EMPIRE.
"THE LAST MAN." The coming of love too late in tiie heart of a faithless wife, is the main theme of "The Last Man," a splendid Blue-Ribbon feature screened at the Em pire Theatre last night. The storv deals with the lives of Major Harvey, a surgeon in the U.S. Army., his butterllv wife and a young officer, Lieut. Home Owing to the indiscretions of his wife the surgeon seeks a separation. He then asks to be sent back to the Phillipines. Jeanne McDonald accompanies him, for his friendship is all that slie has in the world since the death of her, father. Later, the Homes are sent td the Islands, but to a post farther in the interior than that at which Harvey is stationed. The surgeon is ordered to go to that post because their is an epidemic of cholera, threatening. The day before lie leaves he discovers that Jeanne loves him and lie asks her to marry Mm when he returns from Fort Gordo. The fort is being attacked by Moros. Harvey is forced to fight bands of them to "roach the place, then he fights oft the rest while his former wife and Home escap,e. Lorna now ishes to leave Home ant! go back to Harvey. She discovers that she loves him only, but she lias killed his love and in the final scene Jeanne and Harvey marry. The supporting pictures include a. surprising vaudeville film by the 'VAltena Sisters," and a fine scenic, "The Valley of Lotschenthal." To-night is the final screen- j ing of this selection.
