MONTHLY MEETING. The monthly meeting of the TaraViaki Land Board was held yesterday, wheo there were present: Mr. G. 11. Bullard (Commissioner, in the chair), and Messrs C. J. Ryan, .T. Hcslop, J. W. H. Martin, and N. R. Cleland. APPLICATIONS FOR LAND. Applications for land were dealt with as follows:

The Commissioner submitted the, case o of the following sections proposed to lw re-opened under Part 111 of the Land Act, I'OOS, for the reconsideration of the Board: , Section 5, Block VIII, Omona S.D, JGO acres, and Section 12, Block VII, Omona S.D., 31 fi acres.—Resolved to rescind the Board's previous resolution and have the lands offered at the same capital value under the Discharged Soldiers 'Settlement Act. Messrs O'Connor and Bullians (Tmiinarunui) applied for a sawmill site over part of Sections S, ft, and 10, Block 11, Piopiotea West S.D., in connoetion with the working of timber acquired from the Crown in that locality.— I Approved. Mr. E. A. Meredith. Crown Lands Ranger, forwarded report on resumption of Section 2, Block IV, Tainui S.D., 1243 acres. —Resolved'to open at 22s Gd per acre for discharged soldiers only. ,T. K. Gillespie, lessee of Section 13, Block VII, Mapara S.D., HIS acres, ap plied for exemption from residence for twelve months on account of illnessGranted twelve months' leave of absence.
L. L. Laugridge, lessee ; of Sections 803/8, 818. Darta 817 and 821, New fly-
mouth, la. 2r. 29p., applied to subdivide the land and have three separate titles issued for areas. —Approved.
LAND FOR DISCHARGED SOLDIERS. With respect to the Tututawa Settlement, opened for application by discharged soldiers on 22nd inst., it was resolved to approve of the following applications, subject to applicants making, a personal inspection of the land and notifying the Commissioner of same within one week from date, subject also to payment of required deposits within thirty days from date:—-Section 2S, IS3 acres, T. H. Trask; Section 3S, 345 acres, A. C. Maxwell.
It was resolved to reject the following applications for the reason stated in each instance:—Section IS, Jesse Butler, no appearance; Section 2S, George Butler, no appearance; Section 3S, R. J Simpson, received too late. ■ The Board also approved of N. B. Howell's application for Section IS, 183 acres, conditional upon 110 other application being received before 4 p.m., also a personal inspection of land within three days from date and payment of the required deposit within thirty days thereafter.
Mr. H. Henrieksen, Omata, a discharged soldier, appeared in connection with liis' application- for an area of 215 acres (Parihaka Block)-, under the Discharged Soldiers' Settlement Act (Section 4), -which lie desired to acquire.— It was resolved to recommend the application for the approval of the Minister after the Commissioner had made an inspection of the land and fixed tha capital value of same. IN COMMITTEE. The Board in committee dealt .with the following matters:— Consent was given to four Crown tenants to mortgage their holdings at current rates. •*.
4. recommendation was made in the case of four selectors asking for postponement of collection of rout for periods of from one year to two years, bearing interest at 4 per cent, per annum. In the case of a discharged soldier selector, who had made application for advance on account of implements efle'cteß, the Board recommended the granting a progress payment of £B2 103.
