There were no race trains to the course ,at Awapuni, and the taxi-drivers reaped a great harvest. They had the nerve to raise the charge to half-a-crown each wayj too!

After they had-gone six furlongs in tile Gold Cup, The Toff looked like catching Desert Gold, but O'Shea gave her her head and she ran clean away again, much to the amusement of the crowd.

He was paying a great price in the Telegraph Handicap, and if lie wasn't really *«cond he only missed it by a smile. Woodlark, by Hymettus—Woodhey, ran two good races this week, and should have better lucik on firmer going. Detroit was looking an improved gelding at Awapuni, and A. Attwood gave him more than a rough chance each day, though thirds were his share. He finishes well, and will win over a distance of ground "shortly. A Wellington scribe had a fling at the "poor stakes" offered at the Egmont R.C. winter meeting. He evidently overlooked the fact that it is practically a hack meeting, and 110 country club in the North Island gives such generous Stakes as the Egmont Club does at the Bummer meeting.
