THE EMPIRE.
MATINEE TO-DAY- '. "SPARTACUS." ' German treachery was in evidence so long ago as the first century 8.C., when the armies of the revolting gladiator Spartacus had Rome at their mercy. Twice in the course of this great movement the German section in the insurgent forces left Spartacus in the lurch, formed separate forces and were cut to pieces for their pains. Crixus, tlie German lieutenant of Spartacus in tlio early sjday? of 'the revolt, formed a separate 'plan, and he and iiis army, after their defection, were routed and destroyed, and Spartacus with the remainder of the' men won two brilliant .battles. The story of Spartacus has been incorporated in a splendid picture play showing at the Empire matinee to-day and again for the last time to-night.
