TURF TOPICS. (By "Moturoa.") Manawatu races on Wednesday. Wanganui weights appear to-day. Sir Ralph was the only double winner at Hawera. Fidelio's win on Thursday was very much overdue. ■ Rcwipoto and Mia Cara should have won each day at Egmont. Play Off is getting into form, and may show up at Wanganui. Dec-side and Miss Sation paid tall prices at the Hawera gallops. Salutory, for whom a good word was said recently, duly "connected" on Thursday. Away from the course Golden Grafton was poulticed for the Manaia Handicap, but she was lucky to win. Deeside did not have much to beat in the. Manawapou Hurdles, and his victory does not suggest him a3 a Great Northern winner. Inah had a bad spin on Wednesday, but. her party got a royal dividend when she strolled home in the Shorts. It's an il wind, etc. Quite a lot of people reckoned that Mia Cara was first home on Wednesday, but if she didn't quite get there she deserved to. The success of the RewipotoMia Cara double would have caused all the Bar Vons in New Zealand to go to the war. Rewipoto looked like beating Golden Grafton in the Manaia Handicap, when

Nobody begrudged "Mr. C. Elmer a win when Pergola scored on Wednesday. The price was a great one for such a consistent sprinter, and the popular Ha-wc-ra owner threw in for a tidy win. Wine and cigars, please! Antwerp ran along very nicely in the Mcßae Memorial Handicap, and if he is the jumper they say he is, he should bob up at any moment. Analogue appears to have had too much racing, and ran like a big hairy dog this week. Will Wangnnui see a change?

At a send-off to a popular jockey the other evening a fond admirer of the departing hero is reported to have said: "He is just the sort of fellow to make a good soldier. He comes from the same line as All Rod, and appears to be full of grit. Some good, this pfeller. If Toatere and Rewipoto lined up for a mile and a quarter race how would you weight them? It isn't as easy as it looks.

Pink Tie cost her party a nice sum at Hawera. By Multifual—Necktie, she is well enough bred to win good money, and, like wine, improve with age.

Who reckoned there were several •'crook" horses in the Hurdles on Wednesday? Everybody! Tyson has a lot to leavn about jump:!H- same. At present he is a. gelding '.o .ep clear of .in a crowded field.

.;lais was thel strong "away-froui-the-course" tip on Thursday, but he is no champion over small timber. Cokely goes on to Wanganui, and should show improved form there.
