COMMITTEE MEETING. The monthly meeting of i.he .committee of the Taraiiaki Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals was held on Wednesday afternoon, when the foilowing members were present: Very Eev. Archdeacon Evans (vice-president), the Rev. Mr. Sinclair, Mrs. Martin, Miss Curtis, Messrs T. Hirst,. J.. Paton, F. W. Sandford, E. Lash and R. C. Hughes. The Rev. Mr. Harvey also attended at the opening orthe'meeting, but was unable to remain.* Mr. Sandford was' voted to the chair. Correspondence was read from Miss Ivy Foster, of the Inglewcod State school, and Mr. Mcllroy, of the Central school, regarding the establishment of,juvenile branches at those schools, with 02 members at Inglewcod and 430 at the Central. ■,,*■», ,, . p<!t-:g>V-

,- A letter was received from Miss I.evvy, of New South Wales, conveying congratulations on the establishment of the Bands of Mercy, and forwarding ccpies of the Band of Mercy Journal.—lt w&s resolved to order 25 copies of the journal for distribution in Taranaki. The Vc-n. Archdeacon Evans and Mr. Hirst were appointed a committee to formulate a scheme .for competitive essays on the objects of the society. The inspector reported, on the case, of an injured horse in a Courtenay street paddock, stating that it was under the care of a veterinary surgeon. Mr. Sandford, .referring to .the absence of complaints," said'that good work was being done both at the abattoirs and the Smart Road freezing works. Old worn-out animals were now spared a miserable and painful end. as it paid dealers to buy thorn and take .them to these depots, where they were mercifully killed, their hides, hair, bones, etc., being converted into money, and the residue put through the digester and converted into manure.
