The Government has made twonty-one new appointments to the Legislative Council, including Messrs James McGower„ R. D. ■'Meagher, and George Black, who wero recently defeated as Parliamentary candidates. REFERENDUM AND LOCAL OPTION. Received May 7,12.45 a.m. Brisbane, May C. The Upper House abolition referendum 'is incomplete, but so far as, it has gone the result is strongly against abolition. The local option count has not sufficiently progressed to show the position.
