(From Our Own Correspondent.) Inglewood, May 2,, Tho annual meeting of the Inglewood parochial district was held in the parish hall on Thursday last, Kev. E. C. Haron presiding. The report and balance-sheet were read and adopted. The report thanked the Ladies' Giiild for £45 in reduction of the vicarage property debt, and for £3 Ste 6d for repairs. There was a debit of £l3 19a Id, pins £2 lis Gd for the Soldiers' Memorial Fun J. Tho offertories were p £34 Ms (id mora than last year, but subscriptions •showed a decrease of £l2 lis JOd. The envelope system had proved a success. The balance-sheet showed receipts totalling £374 7s 3d and expenditure £3SS 6s 4d. The election of office-bearers resulted in Mr. Hutton being appointed vicar's warden, Mr. Dean people's warden, and vestry: Messrs Messenger, Brown, Williams, Wagstaff, Hoover, and Winfiold; secretary, Mr. Wagstaff; treasurer, Mr. Messenger. x GENERAL. " " Mr. Geo. Taylor, who crushed his foot rather severely last week, is still indisposed, but hopes to be aiout in a few dtfys. Mr. George Morgan was the only one to entrain this morning, although three were supposed to parade. Inglewood, May 3. The first meeting of the newly-elected 'Borough Council was held on Wednesday evening, when Mr G. Young was duly installed Mayor, and all the councillors duly sworn in. The Mayor, in a. short speech, welcomed the councillors, and' expressed the hope that their term of office 'Would he pleasant and useful. The election of committees was then proceeded with, jind resulted as follows: Works Committee—The Mayor, Crs Fawcett and Parkin.
Electrical—The Mayor, Crs Buckley and Coldwell. 1 Finance—Same as Electrical. Library—The Mayor, Crs Sutherland and Gamlin.
Eeserves and Cemetery—Crs Parkin, Fawcett and Sutherland.
Baths—Crs Buckley, Gamlin, and Sutherland.
Hall—Crs Sutherland, Gamlin, and Coldwell.
Tho Mayor and Cr Buckley were appointed to sign cheques. Mr Branch, foreman of works, whose term expires next month, was reappointed under the same conditions. Mr J. Bennett was appointed dog tax collector.
The electrical engineer reported that Mr Copelanil had resigned his position of charge engineer, and recommended that Mr Goodaere be appointed to the position, with Mr Burnip second in charge.— Agreed to. Applications were received for power for electric cookery, and after considerable discussion it was thought inadvisable to grant the request. An application was received from the engineer of the New Plymouth Borough Council for hire of crusher. After due consideration it was decided to leave the matter in the hands of foreman Branch, with instructions not to accept less than £d per yard.
A letter was received from the Chamber of Commerce, asking the Council to consider the question of motor cars, etc., blocking traffic in the main streets, also as to speed limits. This matter caused a very lengthy discussion, and his Worship pointed out that a new by-law was being framed dealing with the storing of explosives, and the Council agreed that a by-law dealing with motor traflic, etc., was very necessary. His Worship and Crs Buckley and Sutherland were appointed a committee to frame the bylaw.
A petition from the business people of the town was presented, through the Chamber of Commerce, requesting an alteration in the closing time of shops from 9.30 to 0 o'clock. It was decided to attend to the request. Acounts amounting to £254 10s lOd were passed for payment, and the first meeting of the new Council closed.
