BOROUGH COUNCIL.
INSTALLATION OF MAYOR. The first meeting of the New Ply* mouth Borough Council, bb recently elected, was held last night, there being present: The Mayor (Mr. C. H. Burgess), aiuj Crs G. W. Browne, R. J. Deare, W. A. Collis, E. Griffiths, W. F. Short, F. J< Hill, J. W. Hayden and J. Clarke. The Mayor, in welcoming the new, council, expressed the hope that they would work harmoniously together during tho next two years. He then gava an interesting resume of the borough's financial position, including loans, of the various works and undertakings. DEPUTY MAYOR. On the motion of the Mayor and 3. Clarke, Cr. W. A. Collis was unaniv mously elected deputy-Mayor. Cr. Collis suitably acknowledged th{. compliment. COMMITTEES., Committees were elected as follows General Purposes (including works sanitation, by-laws, estimates, and al( other matters not within the jurisdio tion of the following committees).—Th( wholo council, with the Mayor as chair ' man. Electric Light and Tramways.— Crt, Clarke (chairman), the Mayor, Hill, Grif< fiths and Short. Reserves, Baths, Band and Abattoir.-* Crs. Collis, Hill and Short} . Finance and ExecutiveA-The Mayorj , Crs. Clarke and Griffiths. Library and Museum.—-Messrs A. H« ; Johnstone and P. J. H, White, Crs< ' Browne and Hayden, and four to b«j elected by library subscribers. Western Park.—Crs. Browne, Deare* Ilill and Clarke, and four members to bo appointed by residents of West End. Pukekura Park.—Crs. Hayden, Collis and Short. New Plymouth Fire Board,—Crs. Grif« flths, Browne and Hill. Citizens' Band.—Messrs C. Ward an! ■ A. L. Humphries. REPAIRS TO DAM. The following resolution wais passed on the motion of the Mayor, seconded by Cr. Hayden: "That, having viewed tho conditions at the Maungamohop dam, and considered the borough engineer's report thereon, the council authorises the borough engineer to construct a new dam at an estimated cost of £2OOO, and that in view of its urgency this work takq precedence of all other work." THE WINTER TIME TABLE. The electrical and tramways engineer submitted the proposed winter time table. This differed from last winter's time table in that it provided for n more frequent Berviee between 4.10 p.m. and (i.oO p.m. There was a slight alteration on Saturday nights, providing foi some of the Morley Btreet cars running through to Fitzroy station instead of to Eliot street. Provision waß also mad( for a reduced time table on wet Sunday^ The report was adopted. ' THE DAY OF MEETING. It was resolved to meet the third) Monday in each month. ' COUNCILLORS ENTERTAINED. Prior to the conclusion of the business the Mayor entertained members of tho council, Mr. J. E. Wilton (ex-Mayor), Mr. ,T. H. Quilliam (borough solicitor), the borough officials and representatives of the press, in his room, where, after a light rep&Bt, a short toast list was honored.
