Foley, recognising he was but of the running and" believing lie had no chance was agrcable to forfeiting so as to hasten the termination of the contest. It was then discovered that if Foley defeated Sharp the championship went to Morison, -whilst a defeat 'brought Sharp level with Morison, provided the game they had played (and won by .Sharp) was not counted. At Midliivst Anzac TDiiy was distinguished from tiie ordinary day by the flying of a largo streamer from the® Midhirst Hotel. The flag had the words "Lest we forget" in blue letters, whilst underneath were ivy leaves. The proprietress.. and family are doing their duty; one son lies at Gallipoli, another is now in the firing line in France, andj a third is now a member of all expeditionary force en route to the front. Yesterday a lad essayed a ride at the rear of the rider of a motor-cycle. The latter was willing to start and so was the machine, but the lad, evidently conjuring up his visions of disaster, 'became timid and slackened hi 9 grip. With lossening his hold followed the loss of, balance, and then sightseers in Broadway had a thrill in seeing the lad take a dive. He touched terra firma all right but the impetus caused him to perioral Several Catherine wheels. Beyond receiving a diet of gravel, a suit of clothes that showed visible signs of rough treatment, and a good sliaking-up the joyrider escaped luckily, but it is safe to say that a seat in the rear—of a cyclist at least —is not desirable. •Fewer trains means the aoumulatior of goods and consequently more work at each station for the slow trains.
