' BERLIN STRIKES. OBJECT ATTAINED. Amsterdam, April 23. The Trade Union leaders, at a meet- ■ mg in Berlin, declared that 400,000 participated in,the strike and had secured the Government's .promise that a Labor committee should co-operate in future in tationing. The aim of the strike Jiad bVon attained. The Vonvfarts says that the police at Cologne confiscated quantities of hoarded com and potatoes, closed 6.8 bakehouses and summoned 300 bakers on charges of hoarding. ' OTHER STRIKES. • .—— "IN GERMANY AND POLAND. Zurich, April 23. Munition workers-in Berlin made'rash demonstrations at the week-end, although the military posted notices at the Spandau factories declaring that strikes care punishable undef the military code. The railway workeys at Warsaw, Lodz and other Polish town 3 nave struck. The Germans have threatened;to deport them but the number is increasing.
PEACE ATTEMPTS. FIERCELY ASSAILED. WEAKENING THE WAR SPIRIT. United Service. London, April 23. The Pan-Germans, headed by Count Eeventlow, backed the Crowh Prince in fiercely assailing the Government's attempts at peace with Russia, fearing ■that the elimination of the Russian danger would weaken the war spirit, reading "Peaco without victory." The PanGermans bought syndicate newspapers in crder to advertise the Crown Prince, whilst attacking the Kaiser. • Count Roventlow asserts _that the status quo and peace without indemnity would ruin Germany and Austria-Hun-gary.
