The situation in Russia is developing most satisfactorily, and there is little doubt 'but the Austrian peace advances .will be scornfully rejected. They synchronised with studied inactivity on the frtnt, which the Russian generals willingly accepted, while the peannt soldiers returned from villages ,wnence they rushed in large numbers •fter the revolution. The peasantry 4 f sre repudiating the Petrograd and Mcsieow extremists, and even the extremist papers are disowning the peace proposal*. The Government will pardon deserter* who return before May 14.
