THE BENEFIT OF THE DOUBT. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Hamilton, April 21. After a retirement of about six ami a-half hours in all the Jury returned the following verdict in connection with the charge of perjury against Tioke:— The jury unanimously find that prisoner was wronr in making the statement which he d 1 on oath, viz., that-Con-stable Skinner fired the first shot. The jury desire to absolutely exonerate Skinner from that charge, .but owing to the amount of excitement which was at that time, rampant, both among Europeans and Natives, the jury has doubts whether prisoner made the statement knowing it to be false. The jury, therefore, having this doulrt, give him the benefit, and find him "not guilty."
